Argentine-born autodidact Bettina Costa opens up new perspectives with her photo collages of Rheinfelden: well-known buildings of the town appear in fantastically alienated settings. The Salmenpark is under water, surfers circle the malt tower. Or: in the middle of the old town, a previously non-existent railway track leads into the darkness of an inconspicuous barn. An Argentinian-Swiss tango of humorous surrealities.

«Let’s talk about art» is the motto of 4th edition of the cross-border exhibition «kunst lokal rheinfelden». Dora Freiermuth from Laufenburg shows objects that convey an amazing illusion of reality. Bettina Costa, artist from Rheinfelden, born in Argentina, deals with her place of residence in a humorously provocative way. She wants to show striking corners of the «Zähringer» town in a different way: as absurd or grotesque backdrops. Her photo collages «Rheinfelden Surreal» are an invitation to rediscover the town.
In addition to discourses on art and conversations with artists, the focus is on local references. Questions about identity and localisation, about society and its responsibility are on the agenda.

At this year’s Art Market Budapest (Contemporary Art Fair) we followed tango steps ascending the wall, found a metal Jesus, and discovered that Hungarian buildings moving under the glass-sealed works of a Scottish photographer. We did a tour through the art fair, opened from 11 to 14 October, and we show you what we would take home.

The basic tango steps painted on the streets of Buenos Aires served as inspiration for Bettina Costa’s installation: carpet-made footprints placed, due to lack of space, on the wall. The first installation was painted in Switzerland, exactly 11255 km away from the artist’s home country. Then followed other street and a lawn version. The work also has a musical component: from under the paving stones sounds Tango. For 200 euros only the footprints are included, not the installation itself; that means that the buyer is free to place the pieces himself. But then, he must not forget to change the music.
